Would you like to protect your goose down bedding products but not sure how to do so?

It is important to keep in mind when you are planning on purchasing goose down-filled duvets and pillows that choosing higher quality products is always worth it, as they offer more than their basic, cheaper competitors.

As we can hear from trustworthy producers, it is of utmost importance that one carefully considers which products to buy, as these purchases can become lifelong investments in the end.

Indeed, products of premium quality can be used for decades, if properly handled by their owner.

To make sure that you take care of your product in the right way, please consider the following:

As with everything else, the easiest way to maintain premium quality of your product is prevention. Firstly, under all circumstances, make sure that your product is safe from any external – both physical and chemical – harm, which would require immediate washing. Think of anything in your everyday life that might leave a deeper stain or mark on your bedding: bits of food and drink, sharpies, beauty products, or your beloved pet’s dirty paw.

If the stain is smaller and has not completely dried up yet, it is a good idea to try to remove it with regular wet wipes, especially with a chemically neutral type. Most of the time, this is sufficient to take care of the injury suffered on the product.

For our pillows, we recommend investing into Gore-Tex type protectors, which provide excellent protection from all kinds of possible impacts, including those caused by liquid. These zipped protectors are made of respiratory material, but they provide perfect protection against dirt and liquid. On top of everything, they can be removed in a second, so in the case of accidents, they can be just tossed into the washing machine.

When properly used, it is enough to shake up your pillows and duvets on a daily basis, and keep them in a well-aired bedroom. It is also worth to air your bedding in an open-air, shaded, and rain-protected space once a month. Should be kept out of direct sunlight.

If you are sweating during the night more than usual, wash your bedding once a year to get rid of the dirt stuck inside. This requires a special procedure, even if the covering material is waterproof. To protect the structure of the down or feather material, use enzyme-free detergent. Either wash the product with your hands, in water with the temperature of approximately 30 Celsius degrees, or in a washing machine with a relatively big drum, but on the lowest function and with only very little detergent. Please avoid using the tumble dryer when washing such a delicate material. After finishing with the washing procedure, you are free to use the dryer, however, only on the lowest setting. The dryer shall not, under any circumstances, create such a hot environment for the product, that the down inside condenses into bigger balls. At the end of the drying, shake up the duvet with your own hands again, and try to ease up the material with your fingers, without damaging the material. If you are too afraid to go through the entire procedure on your own or want to save the time, it is always advisable to take your product to a dry cleaner specialised in handling goose down material.

In the long-run, it is recommended to change the down-proof covering of the product once every ten years, alongside with the cleaning and washing of the down-filling, or in case there is any material missing, refilling its place. Goose down is the most grateful investment, and if well-treated, it is going to present its value in no time.
